Sowetan reports that theres a war raging in Tshwane between the palatial home owners of Lady Selborne and the city council. The problem is that council and the Province have started building low cost housing next to the Lady Selborne mansions. The residents would have none of that. Interestingly, the owners are all black - and their question is why arent these houses built in Waterkloof? No doubt if Lady Selborne, referred to as Sandton in Pretoria in the article, was dominated by white owners, like Hout Bay, the charge would have been racism. Do you think the Lady Selborne residents may have a fair argument? Is my point about the racism charge fair? Is South Africa gravitating towards a class based society rather than a race based one? If so, is it better?
