Soweto Derby ratings by Kickoff ! KAIZER CHIEFS 6 Reyaad Pieterse – No doubt he was comfortable despite this being his fourth start all season. First he made a save from Makola’s header in the fourth minute and he could have been caught out by another Makola’s strike and his save, as poor as it looked, was for a corner not back into play which could have presented Pirates with another chance. 7 Siboniso Gaxa – Looked unshaken in defence, but didn’t overlap enough. When he did, he delivered a great cross for Rusike in the 85th minute but the latter failed to control and the chance to end the match as a contest was gone. 7 Tsepo Masilela – Worked his socks off the entire 90 minutesgoing up and back. 6 Morgan Gould – Looked a bit shaky at times like when he almost allowed Sifiso Myeni through in the first half but, generally, he was solid. 7 Tefu Mashamaite – Alongside Gaxa, Masilela and Gould, he kept the Pirates strikers at bay. *9 Willard Katsande – No doubt the Man of the Match. He not only succeeded in stopping Pirates from playing in midfield, but he was also helping out in Chiefs’ box and in attack from where he scored. Deservedly named the best player on the park. Baxter reflects: “Willard has worked his socks off and was well worth the Man of the Match.” READ: Katsande has come a long way 6 Reneilwe Letsholonyane – Yeye had a chance in the 51stminute, but couldn’t hit the target. However, he was involved all round. 7 Siphiwe Tshabalala – As promised before the match Shabba played his heart out, always looking out to make things happen. 6 Kingston Nkhatha – He had two chances in the first halffrom crosses by Musona and Shabba, but was late for both and missed. Things didn’t go his way, but he never stopped trying high up the field. 6 Knowledge Musona – Put in a great cross for Nkhatha in the 12th minute, but the latter couldn’t capitalise and he did well to shake off a Mahamutsa challenge in the 90th minute, but instead of curling it with his left he opted for his right andmissed. However, he looked a threat more often than not. 6 Bernard Parker – As always, his work rate was top notch buthe didn’t get any clear cut chances to add to his 10 League strikes this season. Matthew Rusike – Came on for Parker in the 80th minute, so he didn’t play long enough for a rating. Ivan Bukenya – Came on for Nkhatha in injury time. The Ugandan didn’t play long enough for a rating. ORLANDO PIRATES 6 Senzo Meyiwa – Made a great save in the ninth minute from a Mashamaite header from a free kick by Parker. Meyiwa was actually late coming out for the ball, but recovered to make asave. But he should take the blame for Katsande’s goal as he should have dealt with Shabba’s corner a bit better, but was caught out by the high ball. 6 Ntsikelelo Nyauza – Very strong defensively, but never overlapped to assist the right winger. *7 Ayanda Gcaba – He was adventurous, taking two shots at goal in the first half and hardly put a foot wrong defensively. 6 Lucky Lekgwathi – Made a poor clearance in the 41st minutewhen his header hit Mahamutsa and Parker almost scored from there. 6 Rooi Mahamutsa – Not a bad match from a player who has just returned from a long layoff through injury and who survived a very bad accident recently. Credit to him for blocking Musona’s attempt in the 52nd minute that could have possibly resulted in a goal. 6 Thandani Ntshumayelo – Worked very hard in trying to stopChiefs from attacking and got his way at times, but didn’t really stamp his authority in midfield. 5 Sifiso Myeni – He’s been battling for form recently and the Soweto Derby was no exception failing to make much impact, if any at all. 6 Oupa Manyisa – Full of running, but minimal impact in the end. 5 Helder Pelembe – Did little to trouble Chiefs’ defence andtestimony to that is the fact that he was taken off at the break. 6 Kermit Erasmus – Frustrating afternoon for him with the Chiefs defence standing firm. 7 Mpho Makola – Did everything he could to get a goal for Bucs, but it wasn’t to be from all his attempts. 5 Lennox Bacela – Came on for the start of the second half, but like Pelembe, didn’t test Pieterse. 5 Thabo Matlaba – Came on for Makola in the 71st minute and struggled to get going. Lehlohonolo Majoro – ‘Major’ replaced Erasmus in the 80thminute. Didn’t play long enough for a rating. HAVE YOUR SAY: Do you agree with Kickoff ratings?
