Space food has come a long way! In the past, astronaut favorites included a certain famous candy-coated chocolate, PB&J on a tortilla, and shrimp cocktail, as well as brownies, bacon and coffee pictured here. Advances in technology and more storage capacity now enable NASA to provide a greater variety of food. Today’s astronauts might enjoy menus created by people such as Top Chef Contestant Angelo Sosa—whose Ginger-Lacquered Short Ribs and Horseradish Crème Fraiche was dehydrated, packaged and sent up to the International Space Station, where it was reconstituted in orbit. This Saturday: Join us at the Museum in Washington, DC for our Women in Aviation and Space Family Day, learn about space food and find out what menu Top Chef competitor and co-host of “The Chew,” Carla Hall, would send into space: bit.ly/1cVyRrZ
