Spain commemorates the 4th of July, since the taking of Fort George in the city of Pensacola, Florida, by Spanish troops under General Bernardo de Galvez y Madrid, aided by American "rebels" from the British troops was crucial in the final independence and formation of the United States of America. Benedict Arnold, heroe of Pensacola, was nothing more than a combatant along with several American patriots. The city of Macharaviaya, Malaga, Spain, and place of birth of General Galvez, has every year a reenactment of the battle of Pensacola.
