Spanish newspaper AS say that Barcelona have given up on signing Mats Hummels from Borussia Dortmund because Manchester United have taken the lead to sign the German international. Hummels is almost certain to remain at Borussia Dortmund this summer unless he kicks and screams to leave, which has to be considered unlikely. It may be interesting to note that Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, who were way ahead with news on Louis van Gaals move to Old Trafford, said at the beginning of June that Hummels was one of the players the manager has specifically asked Manchester United to buy. German magazine SportBild link Manchester United with interest in Brazil midfielder Luiz Gustavo, but then theyve been linking him with several clubs for some time. There was little at the World Cup to suggest that the Wolfsburg man would be one of the transfer windows most wanted. AS in Spain cover British reports of Manchester United interest in James Rodriguez but say he wants to join Real Madrid after already agreeing terms with the European champions. Despite reports from France this week suggesting United were in for Di Maria, El Confidencial say he is close to joining big spending PSG. Record in Portugal claim that Manchester United are still interested in Benficas Enzo Perez but say theyll have competition from others should they make a move. And finally... Bebe looks like hes off to Benfica. He told Portuguese newspaper O Jogo that hes very happy about the possible move and is leaving his agent Jorge Mendes to sort it out.
