Speak Out NOW OBJ On Jonathan’s One Term Pact – Northern Group. Ahead of the 2015 presidential election, a northern-based political pressure group, Arewa Professionals’ Political Forum (APPF) has challenged former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo to save the nation from ‘unnecessary distraction’. In a statement issued in Abuja yesterday, APPF’s Protem President, Dr Dogonyaro Ali said the cause of the current crisis within the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is partly because of the silence of the former leader. Making a veil reference to a statement credited to the Niger state governor, Muazu Babangida Aliyu that President Goodkuck Jonathan signed a one-term pact with Nigerian governors prior to his nomination in 2010, Ali maintained that the ‘respect and integrity of Chief Obasanjo is currently put to test with developments in the PDP’. The statement said: “As a former leader who played a role in the emergence of both the late president, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and Presidnet Goodluck Jonathan, the minimum required standard is for him to speak the truth about every situation in the polity. “There is no doubt that he brought these two men to power against their desires in 2007. Even if he has personal issues to settle with the current administration, the former president should know that the nation is far bigger and more sacrosanct than the personal interests of individuals. “We are living witnesses to what the former president said about President Jonathan in 2011 at the Eagle Square when the PDP was rounding off its presidential campaign, that Jonathan should be commended for agreeing to serve only one term. “However, the sequence of events and issues arising from the crisis in the PDP are as a result of the refusal of the former leader to explain to Nigerians what he meant by that commendation. - Leadership News.
