Speaking my mind… I’ve seen a lot of posts lately from practicing occultists complaining about the authenticity of new grimoires and authors. I see, “that author isn’t real” or “that grimoire is made up”. This is something that in my reality, makes little sense. In my reality, Magic is a science we have yet to fully understand, I won’t go into detail here, as I have in my other writings, but there is a process we are just beginning to see and understand that is behind ‘Magic’. In my reality, Magic is the acquisition of personal energy and the redeployment of that energy with ‘Intent’ to accomplish whatever it is that was focused on in the rite. Now, it is a scientific fact that we all experience our own personal version of reality, so to say that something isn’t real, is invalid to anyone other than the one experiencing this thought. If Magic is the movement of energy, what difference does it make if someone is ‘fake’ or not if their technique works ? One person may work a rite and say, “this is worthless”, and experience nothing, while another works the same rite with amazing result. Which is ‘real’ ? Both. The reason is because we all experience reality differently. If something resonates with you and your reality, use it. If it doesn’t, don’t use it. But if it doesn’t one should not go running to the streets proclaiming that this or that is a fraud, the action is pointless. And, if anyone does just go along with what another says, then that is their loss, as they are only living another’s idea of reality, and not their own. I am not a traditional Satanist, but I do appreciate some of their laws and statements. In ‘The Eleven Satanic Rules of the Earth’, rule number one states: ‘Do not give opinions or advice unless you are asked.’ (Ironically I am breaking this as I write my opinion) I believe this was put into place for the same reasons I am stating in this piece and that it is a good rule to live by. On another level, so much personal energy goes into all this finger pointing, huge posts full of so much anger and pain. Let it go. Use that energy in your Magic, it is being wasted. As well, should Magic not evolve ? Should we all just raise Demons with a Christian Goetia ? No. Magic is evolution and needs to change with the times. Yes, tradition is important for lineage sake, but magic in neither old nor new, it is a science that each of us apply differently. It’s all so very simple…use it if it works for you and rely on your instincts alone to determine ‘what is real’…that is all. ~ S. Ben Qayin
