Speaking of Costa Rica, I was blessed with the opportunity to spend a huge amount of time in that beautiful country. There is not a Starbucks in the country but on the planes going back and forth I was always sitting with buyers from Starbucks and they were in Costa Rica to buy coffee beans. I became friends with a gentlemen who owns 1000 hectares of coffee plantation (about 2500 acres) and he always laughed, the Costa Ricans sold Starbucks the 3 or 4 lowest grades of coffee beans to them and kept the best for themselves. Once you have had the top shelf Costa Rican coffee bean coffee you really can never again drink anything else and especially Starbucks. I always smile at the folks paying $7 a cup for that shit and so does my friend in Costa Rica.
