Speaking of kabuki, showing up to your deportation hearings is essentially voluntary. There is also a good reason to refer to illegal immigrants as undocumented immigrants - you may actually have legal status, but wont find out until your deportation hearing. At any hearing to determine your status or deport you there will be a government employee whose job it is to try to kick you out of the country. No one on your side will be provided for you. Let me make that super clear. There are government employees whose job it is to stand in front of a judge and do their best to send bona fide refugees back to their country of origin, where they were in serious danger because of who they were or what they believed.
