Speaking of my FBs volunteering I have a pet peeve and have for many years when I first saw urban/neighborhood blight...here, in Schdy we have close to a thousand blighted bldgs./lots/commercial spaces...were not doing enough...monies coming to help take down @ least the worst of the worst of the blight but for decades most have been standing adding to further decay and poverty of spirit...no wonder the War on Poverty hasnt been averted as was planned for in the 1960s...hence, poverty of spirit in the hoods today...my own hometown in Utica will never be the same as the old folk that took care of their properties are all gone...new move in and trash or dont do much...Land Banks only do so much...unless there are those who have the will power not just political power to get out there and do! Hats off to the present mayor Rob Palmieri who maps out an area in Utica to be cleaned up, etc. and goes out w/the Codes/DPW Worker/Volunteers and actually gets his hands dirty...again, will power is the driving force into cleaning up blight...stay tuned!
