Speaking on my own behalf only: Im sure many are just as surprised - TopicsExpress

Speaking on my own behalf only: Im sure many are just as surprised by the Kansas law in the statutes regarding landfills and the requirement for county commissioner approval as I am! Contrary to popular belief, I had no idea about the law either. Theres been a whole lot go on over these past 7 months! Although it may be safe to say that its been the hardest 7 months of my life, Ive learned some very valuable life lessons: 1. God is always there if we trust and obey Him. 2. Dont trust everybody you come in contact with. 3. Talk to people and ask for input. 4. Dont take everything at face value...take time and do as much research as possible before moving forward. I could continue to list lessons taken from this experience along with a whole slew of bad experiences, but there has also been some positive notes...1. My relationship with The Lord has gotten stronger. 2. I have developed firmer relationships with people in our community. 3. My skin has become thicker. 4. Ive met a bunch of new people (from both communities) that I wouldnt have otherwise. If you would have asked me 24 hours ago if Id vote for the landfill again, I couldnt have given you an answer. Ive prayed for weeks that God would put an end to all this debacle and settle the issue once and for all. This was not the way I thought itd happen, but Im sure glad that God doesnt play by my rules. Many, many distasteful things have been said by both sides of this issue over the past months. Whether one feels justified in such acts or not, words are hurtful to ones character and family. Although Ive not said much publicly, Im sure Ive had my fair share of hateful thoughts and Ive asked The Lord to forgive me of those things because I refuse to live with hatred in my heart. I hope and pray that everyone that has been effected, even in the simplest form, by this issue can find it in their heart to forgive, ask to be forgiven, be given continued support and start the mending process. Im not naive enough to believe that all hatred and ugliness will stop today. If its not this issue, it will be another. Im asking that all Galena citizens bind together and continue with progress and prosperity. Us Galenanites know that there is nowhere else on Earth wed rather live than in Galena. I dont want to say that I love this town more than anyone else, but Id sure give someone a run for their money. As your councilwoman, Im vowing to give my attention to our finances and making it better for us now and for future generations. Lastly, I dont expect any responses to this, but always feel free to message me! As an elected official, I know I will be least effective if people dont respect me and simply dont want me there (come on, weve all criticized politicians). I will do everything in my power to make Galena a better place, but will be doing everyone an injustice by remaining in a position unwanted. Please, dont pat me on the back, but do message me privately to give me your concerns. We must work together to make things happen! Sorry for the ramble...thank you for allowing me to serve Galena!
