Spending this Pride Weekend Sat at the Iranian Festival (yes, well have Sara Farizans book along with many, many other wonderful titles) and at a mini-festival of Indian writers on Sunday. Will there be time to see the parade? I remember all of those years marching down Broadway with ALBA and other queer Asian groups (turnout often 6-10 people). Then we were joined by Asian Pacific Aids Council (our wonderful straight allies) and then by the Filipino Youth Activities Drill team and finally by many, many out young and old queer Asian Americans. In 1994 many of us from the Seattle Asian American community (glbt and allies) posed for a Unite Against Homophobia poster. It meant so much that Martha Choe, Mayumi Tsutakawa, the late Kip Tokuda and his mom and Bob Santos, among others, stood right along side of us and that so many businesses in the Chinatown/International District displayed this poster for years. It was a start. And this year, George Takei is the Grand Marshall of the Pride Parade??! Love it.
