Spent day yesterday birding with Rob Tovey, headed out highway 40 - TopicsExpress

Spent day yesterday birding with Rob Tovey, headed out highway 40 towards Taif and made it 450 km west. 4 stops on route to take in local sights and added some crackers to my little list. Barn swallow visit us on the way to you guys, a trickle coming through now but soon the flood :). New to me was the Arabian Babbler (not that common around Bromley or Colne lol). Asian desert warbler and desert whitethroath. Not in huge numbers yet but when passage starts apparently theres standing room only on the branches. I have seen both Steppe eagle and eastern inperial eagle here before but were treated to a flock of about 35 just hanging about in a rubbish dump about 400 km out of Riyadh, amazing sight. Little twinge if sadness for the one that clearly misjudged the power line, a sad end to a magnificent creature. Pics to follow
