Spike Lees Her, Johnny Depps Transcendence, Scarlett Johanssons Lucy... they arent the types of Sci-Fi flick your dad was brought up on. They presented a future, yes, but one in which the critical focus was not on the phasers, teleporters, warp drives or shields (which in itself is a futuristic fallacy) but moreso on the cerebral - the intangible - the imagination x 1000 run a muck. But those films in the last few years, they were just the beginning. Theyll keep making things this way. THIS (imho) is the next future mainstream version of Sci-Fi.
