Spillane an Fánaí Series programme 3 on TG4 Tuesday Nov 4th at 10pm Writing a song about Athenry I found a bit scary lads, as, in fairness like, I was up against THE FIELDS OF ATHENRY, one of the biggest songs of all time, a phenomena of a song like. So I dived into the Irish language, the Gaeilge like, and I wrote a song called BAILE ÁTHA AN RÍ. And then my song turned out to be a grand little song altogether, with a nice little turn to it, and some notes came into it that seemed to float above the ground. And then my song grew wings and soared like a swan over the town of Athenry! And then again I was joined on harp by a brilliant local musician called Úna Ní Fhlanagáin, who accompanied me on my flight. I hope yee like my song. Its kind of a child-like, Gaelic, native, naive, foolish, kind of song; its rambling and brambly, and if you dont believe me you can see it for yeerselves on SPILLANE AN FÁNAÍ, TUESDAY NOVEMBER 4TH 10PM TG4 repeated on 6th Nov at 9pm!
