Spin off my last status: Im in the hospital w same attire awhile - TopicsExpress

Spin off my last status: Im in the hospital w same attire awhile back, black scrubs, crew long sleeve grey shirt, looking at a chart near nurses station, staff walks up: Staff: Are you here to take patient down for X-ray? Me: Not quite, Im here because pts family requested to speak w physician and Im reviewing the latest notes from consultants. Staff: 🙊oh, Im soooo sorry! Me: Its ok. Can you get Dr ____ on the phone? I cant read his writing... I know what youre thinking. Yes, she was older white lady. But what youre not thinking is I felt led to have a nice constructive conversation w her in a different setting one on one. She felt bad and kept apologizing. I held her hand softly and told her one apology sufficed. Reality is, black doctors comprise a small percentage but dont just assume we are all custodians and transporters. She goes out the way to speak to me now, even if its down the hall, Hey, Doctor Turner!!! She smiles, and I smile back, as we share our secret moment of eradicating ill conceived perceptions. In life, we cant control everything that happens to us, but we can control how we respond. Growing up, people always told me I did too much, I was extra, all that isnt necessary, etc... But I realized a long time ago, Im not called to be average, ordinary... I fought w/ the man above a long time but as Pastor Pickett taught us, our arms arent long enough to box with God! We are all built to fulfill a destiny greater than us. Submission requires giving up what your flesh wants and saying God use me to do your Will. My flesh didnt want to wait and pull that staff member to the side another day in a constructive fashion, it wanted to be sarcastic right then and give her a pointless order so she wont forget again. Be the bigger person. Its really not about you, anyway. Walk in purpose. #MarquellsMotivationalMoment
