Spiritual Warfare Thought for the Day Part#2 By Brother Tim Guarding Your Heart! We are heart beings...What our hearts are set on is what we desire, and tend to pursue! We speak from our hearts, so if our hearts are set on pursuing Jesus and His ways we will be on the path of His Light! Here are some references from Gods Word about our confession: Matthew 12 34 O generation of vipers, how can you, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. 35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart brings forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things. Proverbs 4 23 Keep your heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. 15: 2 The tongue of the wise uses knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools pours out foolishness. 4 A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit. Proverbs 17: 4 A wicked doer gives heed to false lips; and a liar gives ear to a naughty tongue. 20 He that has a fraudulent heart finds no good: and he that has a perverse tongue falls into mischief. 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. 21:6 The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a vanity tossed to and fro of them that seek death. 23 Whoever keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps his soul from troubles. 25: 15 By long forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaks the bone. 25: 23 The north wind brings forth rain, and a backbiting tongue, angry looks. ESV 26:28 A lying tongue hates those that are afflicted by it; and a flattering mouth works ruin. 28:23 He that rebukes a man afterwards shall find more favor than he that flatters with the tongue. We have a weapon in His Word! Our Weapon! Hebrews 4 12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. The Two Edged Sword! Our Words can be based on Gods Word or not when we use Idle Words! Grk- Distomos -Strongs Number # 1366 Meaning Double Mouthed or Two Edged Here are some references to the Greek Word in the New Testament and The Old Testament usage in the LXX Septuagint or Greek Old Testament! One interesting definition expounded upon on Hebrews 4:12 is given by Rick Renner, and I found it tied in with the Old Testament usage in Greek! We have a Two Edged Sword. Gods Word which should be our constant confession. Rick said we receive the Word from The Mouth of God and We Speak The Word from Our Mouths therefore effectively using The Word of God The Two Mouthed Sword! Jesus showed us when He was tempted in the Wilderness..He said...It IS Written! Matthew 4: 1 Then was Jesus led up of the spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. 2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungered. 3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If you be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. 4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. So Jesus has given us His Model to walk by In Him! We Should Praise and Speak forth His Word! Psalms 149 6 Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hand; On The negative side we with unguarded hearts receive and speak forth evil things can bring destruction upon ourselves as this verse shows! Proverbs 5 4 But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword. Aother aspect of this is not living by what we speak. :Hearing and Doing the Word is covered this in James 1: 19 Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger;20 for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.21 Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. 22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror.24 For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like.25 But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing. 26 If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this persons religion is worthless.27 Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world. James Chapter 3 covers this in depth...showing how unruly our confession can be! Yet Only through The Holy Spirit can we have a right profession and confession, and following His Word to have an outward showing also! So keep Your heart guarded in Him...We have these gates to our heart which I have not covered but they are Yours and My Senses.... These gates lead to our hearts and Minds. When our hearts and Minds are occupied with Him ,and His Word we are quicker to recognize the ungodly things and to cast them down. Let us start by reading His Word and hiding it in Our hearts more, as The Psalmist said: Psalms 119:11 Your word have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against you. Speak His Word forth! Hebrews 4:12 Be Blessed In Him ~ Brother Tim
