Splitting up the UK, which is effectively what some Scots want to - TopicsExpress

Splitting up the UK, which is effectively what some Scots want to do, is not a fair thing to fir many reasons. One being those that are left affected. At the moment all Britons share the economic, social and infrastructural benefits afforded by the age old Union, signed and agreed by all sides of the now almost clerical borders. Separation would see brothers and sisters, sons and daughters, parents and grandparents suddenly left bereft of any parallel and universal laws, legislation, savings and benefits. Separating unified nations who gave worked as one unit for centuries would wreak havoc for many whose interests lay both sides of the border. Indeed many living in Scotland have expressed an intention to move countries if a separate country were defined. But how do you create a country for which the border has been moved so many times and for so many reasons throughout history? Indeed, northern English are genetically matched with most Scots more so than their cousins in the south of England. Highland Celts feel somewhat estranged from their Pictish foes of old that now share the same country in name. Shetlanders, and many gaelic speaking Islanders would like autonomy from an independent Scotland, let alone England. So how can the Scottish National Party claim that the entire region, as it is currently drawn, is in fact one nation with the same mind. A separate Scotland would be duty bound to allow any Island, region or cultural group to vote for independence from an Edinburgh lead government. Indeed the word Scotland is an oxymoron in itself, contradictory in make-up and bereft of a common racial background. But one thing is clear, that for the last few centuries all these peoples of the Union have worked together to build Great Britain, and now when times are a little tough, they (separatists) want to jump ship and go it alone. What I hope Scots do realize is that this vote will not just affect those living in Scotland but everyone in the UK, and its peoples overseas. In fact the ripples are endless. In the end I hope the votes will conclude this debacle and close any separatist irrationale for the foreseeable future and let us all get on with more important matters affecting our lives.
