Spoke one on one with another officer in my community last night, - TopicsExpress

Spoke one on one with another officer in my community last night, hes been in law enforcement for 33 years. The officer brought up Darren Wilson, Mike Brown, & the protests. Though his views were different than mine - one thing he said that stuck out to me is that every morning when he puts his uniform on & leaves his house he knows his life is endanger (before he can ever say hello, how are you?) just because he is the police, and some people in the community really hate the police- automatically. He didnt catch how similar his experience as a cop is to being a Black Man in America - but nonetheless I told him I respect what he does & I acknowledged the risks he & other officers take daily. He says Darren W. made the wrong decision to pursue the late Mike Brown, he should have disengaged and waited for assistance - instead he felt big and tough & Brown ended up being tougher. He also says The late Mike Brown was wrong for his actions at the store. Overall, I heard him out, we shared some laughs about other trivial things, and he told me over 33 years hes seen a lot. I can only imagine.
