Sports BB v Silver on Malawi’s 49th independence anniversary : No international match By Nyasa Times Reporter June 18, 2013: Malawi will break from a long standing tradition of engaging a foreign national football team to play a match against the Flames as part of the July 6 Independence Day Celebrations . No reason has been given for the changes and instead the country’s popular teams Bullets FC and Silver Strikers will headline the celebrations activities at Civo Stadium in the Capital Lilongwe. Football Association of Malawi (Fam) General Secretary Suzgo Nyirenda confirmed the development saying Malawi National Council of Sports has arranged that local club rivals Bullets and Silver should play. “We have just received communication from Malawi National Council of Sports informing us on the friendly game between Bullets and Silver on Independence Day celebrations,” he said. The Fam General Secretary said the association was yet to inform the two clubs involved. He did not also disclose the conditions for the two clubs to play the game. “According to the letter, the game will be played at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe. We are yet to notify the clubs on the matter.” Last year Malawi played Zambia and beat the Chipolopolo Boys 1-0 at Kamuzu Stadium through captain Joseph Kamwendo’s goal.
