Sports/Football funding really grinds my gears!!!! Hundreds and thousands of pounds are made available to establish new football teams, to pay for facility hire, pay for qualified coaching, or purchase new equipment etc and ultimately increase participation, BUT... I am yet to come across any genuine funding for open age (16+) clubs who struggle season after season with inflating FA affiliation fees, League fees, pitch hire, kit, equipment etc. There are already more than enough teams out there, but so many are folding year after year because there are not enough players available!! I would love to see a survey/statistics that ask every open age club across the country, during the course of the season, how many times do you have 12 or less players available on a match day. How about some funding made available to ALREADY ESTABLISHED teams who need new players, with funding for paid newspaper or online advertisements for trials, training or matches etc, or funds for better equipment such as footballs and nets to give clubs a much better aesthetic representation which can help entice new players to join.
