Sports Hockey The Diamond Mineral Water international hockey festival concluded on Sunday evening and saw Revamp hockey club of Canada lifting the grand prize. The Canadian Revamp hockey men club demonstrated outstanding talent to defeat Queens Park of Trinidad four goals to non in the finals to lift the title. They also played unbeaten throughout the tournament. In the female match up GCC women withstood the strong challenge of defending champion Malvern of Trinidad beating them 5-2. According to the GCC ladies it was a well-deserved victory since Malvern defeated them in the finals last year. The veteran’s title went to Hikers club. According to the Guyana hockey board the tournament was a great success. Over eleven overseas teams participated in the international hockey festival. The event was sponsored by DDL, Carib and Digicel And in football It was a packed weekend of football action in the GFA Banks beer tournament as four more teams Beacon, Silver Shattas Grove Hi Tec and Houston Stars were sent packing from the tournament. At GFC ground on Sunday it was a goal fest as Santos trounced Houston Stars 10-1. While in the final game of the night the country’s top team Alpha the hammer united trashed grove hi tec eight goals. National striker Anthony Awo Abrams led the assault on grove scoring four goals. On Saturday over at the Den Amster ground Linden Mile rock squeezed pass Beacon by a one goal margin. While in the game of the night home side Den Amstel along with fans had much to celebrate as they defeated silver shattas of Linden 3- Overseas based player Trayon Bobb sealed the victory for his home side scoring the decisive goal as the two teams were deadlocked 2 goals each late in the match Coach of silver shattas conceded defeat while for Den Amstel it was a vital win. Action in the banks beer tournament will continue on Wednesday with Riddim squad taking on Mahaica Determinators and Gdf and Botofago.
