Spouses and dependents of diplomatic and consular mission staff at the Fiji High Commission in the UK and the British High Commission in Suva will be able to engage in gainful occupation. An agreement was signed by the British High Commissioner to Fiji, Roderick Drummond, and Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary, Amena Yauvoli that enables this to take place. Drummond said this agreement was particularly important as it provides the two countries a broader selection of candidates because some candidates might not agree to a posting to a country where their spouses cannot work. He said this day and age couples have joint careers so it helps to improve the talent pool. Yauvoli said this agreement will facilitate the spouse and dependents to find meaningful employment and helps address the immigration rules on work permits that had restricted them from working previously. Similar arrangements are expected in other missions. Spouses and dependents of Fijian mission staff wanting to work in their host country will have to inform the Protocol Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. Similarly, for UK High Commission expatriate staff spouses and dependents will inform their Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) of the UK and Northern Ireland. - See more at: fbc.fj/fiji/20920/fiji-uk-sign-agreement-for-diplomatic-spouses-#sthash.qe6VJDy6.dpuf
