Spring Fling 30th anniversary. What a weekend. Daniel Merry we sure missed you, darlin....but we are glad that you decided to go on the side of caution than to push it and get worse. That was everyones consensus. See you in the fall ;) Jim , the weather was gorgeous in the daytime. The Land was in fine form as always ;) A little rain Friday eve, Saturday and today were stellar ;) The nights were 40, a little cold but you know, well worth it. ;) Small world, I had 3 people ask me if I knew you... ;) and if you were going to be able to attend. Of course they had wonderful things to say. Scott, Cuzn Bob, and a newby guitar player Gary ;) When it came to your health, they were as glad as i was you were taking care of your spine. Quite a few that didnt make it had health issues, or parents that needed attention. As always it was wonderful to see everyone that made it ;) Susan Martin came and helped us with Bill Wards song in the circle at dinner, we had Bill on Memorex so he led as traditional. He was in Kerrville, all the working musicians were glad he had a gig and was playing for the masses ;) Paul, Joel, Wally, Charlie, Larry and Joe tore it up on guitars, dobros, (sp) percussion boxes, and harps at Blairs sacred fire after dinner. The newby Gary kept right up, with wonderful leads, and old favorites, he plays electric in a blues rock band, He and his lady loved the story of the Land, Lyndell, and Blair. Russell gave them Calm 101 lessons. New Calmverts always welcome. ;) You know the dynamic duo, Joel and Wally had us all laughing at songs about Saran wrap, politics, and life experiences, that they assured us were all True stories. ;) Wallys voice sang me to sleep over the land....Friday night. It was so good to be back in the enchanted forest. One of the Ladies did several wonderful flamenco style songs in Spanish,. Larry Lyons did a long version of Kate Wolfs Green eyes that brought tears to mine. One of my favorite parts of course are the new original songs written by our Calm family. Those were wonderful. And my 2nd favorite thing is the youth growing up attending Flings , and the talent they possess that has been handed down like Joe McNease and his son. His son and his friend Caleb did wonderful originals and great renditions of Fuel and Pearl Jam. That Apple did not fall too far from that tree, I tell you what! A young man from Austin played some jazz style fast talking originals. He was given props for having the cojones to perform at Austin live mics these days! In my humble opinion Blair was in our minds and hearts all weekend. He definitely approved of the music at his fire. Remembrances of Allen Damron, Jeanne , and all those that have passed on were shared. Saturday night we all joked at the 3 am giving it up for bed. In our 20s and 30s we went all night till the Sun came up! Of course the young folks did just that. You could hear them in the woods. I was up enjoying my fire and basking in the wisdom of the evenings musical gifts ;) Dinner was amazing like always, Russell Fuselier checked out my huge peach cobbler ahead of time to make sure it was edible. He didnt want me to lose face if it wasnt up to Par ;) Wasnt that sweet of him? Lyndell did the same ;) Of course she was a little powerhouse walking all over the land seeing to things for this 30th anniversary..retiring after 42 years at TSU hasnt slowed her down one bit. The new deck is finished , beautiful and ready for House concerts Before dinner she was presented with a street sign. It was stated the reason the Land is so hard to find is there is no street sign. So the Sign gifted says BRAUD WAY ;) She loved it! Jake and Diane brought their wonderful leather works and beaded Jewelry to sell.Kim Fuselier had a table with her imaginative vintage jewelry designs. And the 30th anniversary shirt in Turquoise designed by Kim. I just want to thank Lyndell and Blair for starting this and allowing us the opportunity to share the Love in the enchanted forest twice a year. And to Kim and Russell Fuselier who have selflessly given of their time, effort and energy to pull off another successful fling, We thank you. Love, Light and Blessings to you all.
