Springbrook NP Double Header Treat Today due to late venue - TopicsExpress

Springbrook NP Double Header Treat Today due to late venue change, we took on two great short walks at Springbrook. First we went to TWIN FALLS (6k’ approximately return) and then part of PURLINGBROOK FALLS and the Warringa Rock Poo (4k return). AFrom the Tallanbana Picnic Area we may our way down a great easy walk down to the falls with some excellent views along the way, A unique experience walking behind the falls, through clefts in the rock face and continuing along the twin falls track leads to several other waterfalls and great views along the way through the rain forest. We the drove down to the Gwongorella Picnic Area for lunch then on to commence Purlingbrook Falls. As the track is partially closed, we had to walk both down the 450 steps and up again. The first glimpse of Purlingbrook Falls is like something out of Jurassic Park, humid damp and palm trees rising up from the edges of the black cliffs, it was incredible! Nevertheless it was great to do the short walk to the lookout at the top of the falls, and then to walk back to go down among rainforest and palms into the bottom of the gorge. We then branched off to the Warringa Pool. It adds on another 2km to your hike but the pool at the end is worth the walk. Its the ideal place to get your shoes off and refresh your feet or take your bathers and enjoy a swim, (which none of us did) As I so often do, Ill leave the rest to our resident wordsmith Rosemary: We experienced it all, bar blizzard: freezing start with high winds, rain and a sky so bleak we were sure we were in for a brutal day. 3 kms into the walk and theres barely a cloud in the brilliant blue sky. Layers are shed, but once again Susans wisdom prevails because 5 minutes later were freezing again. Not deterred though, the hearty crew pressed on, full of the joys, heartened by some of the best scenery in SE Queensland. Weve been so blessed with our Thursday weather, rarely having to cancel for weather reasons. I for one look forward to Thursdays and simply couldnt bare not to have my walk with beautiful friends.
