Squiggy is a handsome, 15 year old male cat that we saw on Friday because his owner noticed that he was having difficulty breathing. He was suffering from congestive heart failure, and his chest was full of this cloudy white fluid, called a chylous effusion (lymphatic fluid that builds up in the chest). We removed three of these syringes full of fluid from his chest (170ml - about 3/4 cup!), and then put him in our oxygen therapy cage. He started breathing much better, sat up and started looking brighter. We were eventually able to send him home on a higher dose of Lasix than he had previously been using and we will recheck him next week (sooner, if he starts having difficulty, again). Squiggy was diagnosed with uncategorized cardiomyopathy (a problem with his heart muscle) last April. His dad posted a photo of him back at home and says he is doing much better. We hope that he continues to improve!
