Sreehatta Sammilani Mumbai A brief - TopicsExpress

Sreehatta Sammilani Mumbai A brief history of the organisation Sreehatta Sammilani Mumbai (SSM), a Socio-Cultural Organisation, registered as a charitable Trust under Bombay Public Trust Regd. No. F27135 (Mum), came into being on 14th July, 2002. The major aims and objectives of the Sammilani is to provide relief to the Cancer Patients coming to Mumbai from different parts of the country, particularly from the North-East where the incidence of the dreaded disease is abnormally high, for treatment at Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital by arranging temporary accommodation and other need based help apart from other philanthropic and Socio- Cultural activities. Initially, with the patronage of a few worthy personalities and commendable support of generous people, the organisation started a Guest House in a rented flat for the accommodation of Cancer patients & their Attendants. But unfortunately SSM had to close the facility after running it for about eight years as we were compelled to surrender the flat back to the owner. But, we are on the look out for a permanent Guest House for which we are trying to raise funds. Meanwhile, we continued our service to the cancer patients in very many ways. The Organisation is working as a link and a helping hand in finding affordable accommodation in other available facilities. It also arranges and provides active support & co-operation to Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital in its Blood Collection Campaign for the benefit of Cancer patients. Recently, we organised a blood donation Camp in collaboration with the Tata Memorial Hospital at Orange Hospital, Mira Road, where 42 bottles of blood were collected from our eligible members, friends and voluntary donors. We have arranged similar blood donation camp at Antop Hill, Mumbai, to be held on 2nd February, 2014 (Sunday). The opening of the FB account is aimed at spreading the news of our Mission for greater participation of the cross section of people in our activities. The Organisation is now working relentlessly to achieve its ambitious project of acquiring a permanent Guest House for the Cancer patients arriving in Mumbai for treatment from different parts of the country. The dream project can come to reality only with the active participation of generous individual or a consortium for which the organisation gives a call to the community at large. SSM has approx. 300 Life Members who came and settled in Mumbai mostly from the Barak Valley of Assam which is predominantly a Sylheti speaking area. SSM provides a platform to this sect to practise and exchange its rich culture and heritage by arranging various social & cultural activities like celebration of Bengali New Year (নববর্ষ), Sharodiya Sammelan after Durga Puja and various other Cultural functions by the members of Sylheti Paribar every year. The Managing Committee members meet every month at some member’s residence and discuss/decide various issues of SSM. A ladies wing of SSM is formed by the name Sreehatta Mahila Samity Mumbai under the auspices of Sreehatta Sammilani Mumbai, to support the SSM in the field of funds raising for its welfare Schemes. SSM’s notification about the ensuing ‘Sylhet Utsav – 2014 ( an All India meet of Sreehatta Sammilanis of different places of India, scheduled to be held in Mumbai on 7th & 8th June, 2014, will follow very shortly.
