Sri Bhagavan on will-power Devotee.: What are the means for - TopicsExpress

Sri Bhagavan on will-power Devotee.: What are the means for gaining will-power? Bhagavan: Your idea of will-power is success insured. Will-power should be understood to be the strength of mind which makes it capable for meeting success or failure with equanimity. It is not synonymous with certain success. Why should ones attempts be always attended with success? Success develops arrogance and the mans spiritual progress is thus arrested. Failure on the other hand is beneficial, inasmuch as it opens the eyes of the man to his limitations and prepares him to surrender himself. Self-surrender is synonymous with eternal happiness. Therefore one should try to gain the equipoise of mind under all circumstances. That is will-power. Again, success and failure are the results of prarabdha and not of will-power. A man may be doing only good and noble actions and yet prove a failure. Another may do otherwise and yet be uniformly successful. This does not mean that the will-power is present in the one and not in the other. Source: Talk 423 Sri Bhagavan on will-power Devotee.: What are the means for gaining will-power? It is only that which makes the vichara also. The Self has no vichara. That which makes the enquiry is the ego. The I about which the enquiry is made is also the ego. As the result of the enquiry the ego ceases to exist and only the Self is found to exist. Day By Day LikeLike · · Share 98 people like this. View 1 more comment Parwati Walia Thank you. September 26 at 10:35pm From: Face to Face with Sri Ramana Maharshi: 195. Prof. D. Gurumurthi came to see Sri Ramana during his last days. On the day of our visit, we found Sri Ramana walking a few steps to the verandah with great effort. His body looked extremely weak, pale and limp. He could scarcely stand the weight as he moved forward. But the moment he ascended the seat and settled down for one-hour public darshan, a marvellous change came over him. It was as though he was summoning the spirit to dwell visibly in his body. His face shone radiant with peace. It was a marvel of conquest over the body. As devotees advanced to the presence of the Maharshi and bowed down in utter faith and fervent dedication, vibrations of power could be felt. At every bow a wave of devotion would flow towards the sage, and there would come a powerful flood of benediction from him to the devotees on the ground. A veritable miracle was being performed. An aged body bent down by terrific penances, exhausted and enfeebled by a mortal illness, and yet the immortal spirit of the emancipated sage triumphed over the weakness of the body, which was resplendent and shedding benign grace on the assembled devotees. Few among mankind have had the great privilege of participating in such a spiritual feast. When I sat in the evening session of darshan, a question formed in my mind. What will happen to the hundreds who will be deprived of this spiritual nourishment? As I was mentally addressing this question to Sri Ramana, radiance was felt by me. His physical form before me gradually became shrunken, smaller and smaller and vanished into radiance. As the radiance grew deeper and more powerful, I felt I had the answer to my query. Even though the body may disappear, concentration of spiritual power which was focused round it will continue to shed its influence. And as long as one can put oneself into attunement with that form and with that radiance, one would draw spiritual sustenance. ~~~~~~~~~ John Wassenberg From: Face to Face with Sri Ramana Maharshi: 195. September 26 at 7:16pm Q: “I find surrender is easier. I want to adopt that path.” Bhagavan: “By whatever path you go, you will have to lose yourself in the One. Surrender is complete only when you reach the stage ‘Thou art all’ and ‘Thy will be done’.” “The state is not different from jnana. In soham there is dvaita. In surrender there is advaita. In the reality there is neither dvaita nor advaita, but That which is, is. Surrender appears easy because people imagine that, once they say with their lips ‘I surrender’ and put their burdens on their Lord, they can be free and do what they like. But the fact is that you can have no likes or dislikes after your surrender and that your will should become completely non-existent, the Lord’s Will taking its place. Such death of the ego is nothing different from jnana. So by whatever path you may go, you must come to jnana or oneness.” Day by Day with Bhagavan Ramana Hridayam Q: “I find surrender is easier. Yesterday at 12:06pm (176) NATURE’S SPLENDOR As summer has advanced and the space in the hall has been found insufficient, Bhagavan has started staying in the Jubilee Hall itself all day. Bamboo screens are usually tied down behind his seat, but the attendants raised them yesterday as they were obstructing the free flow of the breeze. I did not notice it. I went there this morning at 8 o’clock. Bhagavan was seated there on the sofa, facing south, like Dakshinamurthy. The mango trees behind covered the whole space like a pandal with their branches, their tender leaves and delicate flowers heralding the dawn of summer. Between those leaves and the flower stalks, bunches of little mangoes, looking like Sivalingas, were dangling. The bowers of the flower garden on his right were full of flowers. Pots containing crotons were placed behind him very close to the sofa. On the left, they had filled a cement tub with water, in which sparrows were enjoying a bath. On either side of the sofa, two peacocks were standing — one white and the other coloured. The incense sticks were giving forth their perfumed smoke, assailing the nostrils of the devotees gathered there. The sun’s rays were coming in through the slits in the covering of the thatched roof and falling on Bhagavan’s body, making it shine like gold. Seeing all this splendour, I do not even know if I prostrated as usual before Bhagavan; I remained standing still, lost in admiration. Ramachandra Iyer, one of the attendants, looked at me as much as to say, “What is it?” Unable to contain my joy any longer, I exclaimed, “Brother, have you noticed how beautiful this scene is? See how nature around has blossomed and is showing us all its beauty! It would be nice if a photo were taken.” Bhagavan enquired as to what it was all about. “The whole scene here looks so beautiful that I was suggesting that a photo might be taken,” I said. Iyer also fell in with the idea, and so said, “Yes, we will take a photo.” Immediately thereafter, Bhagavan began narrating to us some incidents in his early life: “As you all know, I was in the Mango grove next to Gurumurtham, for some time. At that time also, I had a small shed under a mango tree. They erected something overhead like a nest to prevent rain falling on me. There was however not enough space even to stretch my legs fully while sleeping. I used to be sitting almost all the time like a bird in its nest. Opposite my shed, Palaniswami also had a small shed. In that huge garden, only two of us used to stay.” - Letters from Sri Ramanasramam Ramana Hridayam (176) NATURE’S SPLENDOR As summer has advanced and the space in the hall has been found insufficient, Bhagavan has started staying in the Jubilee Hall itself al...
