Sri Jinaya namah, Dear All, To my knowledge There are 4 places in Tamilnadu where a life size Kannaki idol has been installed. Two at Poompuhar, one at Marina Beach - Chennai, and the fourth on at Pammal - Sri Adhi Bhagwan Jinalayam campus. Kannaki, a Jain sravaki, ( Jain house holder - Samana illara nangai ) has been immortalised by the Jaina ascetic Ilanko Adigalar. Kovalan is also a Jain house holder. Prof.Sripurana semmal J.Srichandran, who, as an erudite scholar in Tamil epics, very particularly Seeva sinthamani and Silappathikaram, had his dream to install Kannaki statue, in Kannaki Kottam translated to reality on 22-12-2013. Tomorrow -21-12-2013 is the First anniversary of the installation of Kannaki idol . in addition he has created a fund to conduct scholarly talks on Silappathikaram, once in two months at Sri Adhi Bhagwan Jinalayam, Pammal, Chennai. The very first lecture delivered was Thirumamani Kannaki by none other than Prof.Srichandran himself, an outstanding Tamil Scholar. On 21-12-2014 the first anniversary of installation of Kannaki idol is celebrated as Jaina contributions to Tamil, at Centre for Thirukkural Research, Ponnur hills, near Vandavasi.
