Sri Lanka’s “refugees” or economic migrants and the boat - TopicsExpress

Sri Lanka’s “refugees” or economic migrants and the boat smuggling mafia Here’s the simply logic. Anyone fleeing a country using internationally accepted key words to justify their right to be termed a “refugee” must surely run to the closest country for that safety. What is that country – it is India. Why is India not only the closest and why should it be the most appropriate – Tamil Nadu in particular its politicians both government and opposition spend a large amount of time profaning concern for Sri Lanka’s Tamils. So instead of going to India where they would be accepted in open arms why are these “refugees” spending big money to human smuggling syndicates to take them to Australia or Canada. It is because there is something terribly “fishy” that the Australian Government has now decided to pack all to Papua New Guinea. Anyone paying $25,000 or more is not a refugee! It is 6821.20km from Sri Lanka to Australia, it is over 14,000km from Sri Lanka to Toronto, Canada while it is just over 32km from Sri Lanka to Tamil Nadu yet some of these Sri Lankan Tamils go to Tamil Nadu and from there they get onto boats to travel to Australia or Canada! The catch is “seek a better life abroad” so we wholeheartedly agree with Australian Foreign Minister Bob Carr who says “People are coming here, not now as a result of persecution, but because they’re economic refugees who have paid money to people smugglers.” If people are paying money to get onto boats and sail the ocean to land in nations like Australia and Canada it should also nullify the claims of repression that have become a perfect slogan to use as reason for them to leave and plead for consideration as “refugees”. Thankfully, Kevin Rudd Australia’s new Prime Minister has seen through the ploys being used and he has gone a step further by carving a deal to export all illegal migrants to Papua New Guinea.
