Srinagar, Oct 7: Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Geelani Monday alleged that the state government was "on the path of war to crush its political opponents by force." "All claims of democracy and tolerance by the State are a hoax," Geelani said in a statement, adding that "Omar Abdullah-led administration has violated the basic rights of a common man." Stressing for early revocation of Public Safety Act (PSA), Geelani said the Amnesty International has declared it as a lawless law and its provisions contradict and defy fundamental rights of a citizen. "Without any trial in a court of law the people are arrested for their political ideologies and detained for long periods. PSA was designed against timber smugglers. However, from the first day it was implemented to suppress the freedom movement. It was Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah who in his regime applied PSA against his political opponents followed by Farooq Abdullah, Mufti Muhammad Sayeed, and Ghulam Muhammad Shah," Geelani said. He said, "Omar Abdullah regime has surpassed all limits. Even teenagers and students are not spared." Meanwhile, Geelani expressed his satisfaction over the peaceful sit-in demonstration held by the Hurriyat leaders and activists at Press Colony here against slapping of PSA against the Hurriyat leaders and activists.
