St Peter’s Advent Service, Wednesday 3rd December Our beautiful city Cathedral was the setting once again for the school Advent Service on the 3rd December. Over 120 singers and instrumentalists took part along with the majority of Year 7. Sophia Pym (voice), Niamh Flynn (harp) and Florence Rutherfoord Jones (violin) opened the service with a beautiful folk tune arranged to the words of an Advent hymn, setting the tone for a reverent but fun service. Other highlights were witty dramas, performed by Harry Sewter, Dane Williams, Maddy King and Georgie Adams; Chamber Choir’s arrangement of the Seal Lullaby, accompanied by the harp; 150 Year 7 students belting out their ‘Noel’ song with a Rock Band accompanying them and GCSE Music students singing 3-part a cappella harmony in another Advent hymn. The service closed with a memorable Finale involving all 250 students – a ‘mash-up’ comprising blended chunks of famous Christmas Carols and the Hallelujah Chorus! Thank you to all students for such huge enthusiasm on this number! Thank you too, to all of you who supported us, and particular thanks to Ed Bird who played with the Student Worship Band and Paul Stock who accompanied the congregational carols on the newly-restored organ. What a lovely start to the Advent season. Harriet Faith and Christian Tebbutt
