Stafford Twp. (Manahawkin), NJ MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT WITH INJURIES: On Saturday 11/2/13 at 9:13 PM, a motor vehicle collision occurred on Route 72 at the intersection with East Road. A 2007 Saturn Vue was traveling eastbound on State Highway 72 in the left lane operated by Hector Moreno, 50 of Parkerton, NJ. A second vehicle, a 1996 Dodge Ram operated by Ryan Leykum, 20 of Tuckerton, NJ was utilizing the jug-handle from State Highway 72 west in order to access Martin Truex Jr. Boulevard. Leykum failed to obey a red signal, entering the intersection with traffic moving on Route 72. Leykum attempted to make it through the intersection, however, entered the path of Morenos vehicle resulting in a collision. After impact, Leykums vehicle continued onto East Road where it impacted a third vehicle stopped at the red signal, a 2012 Nissan Altima operated by Lynn Carroll, 55 of Manahawkin. - Moreno sustained chest and hip injury and was transported to Southern Ocean Medical Center. - Morenos passenger Albertina Landa, 53 of Parkertown was airlifted to A.C. Trauma Center for a chest injury. - Leykum sustained a facial injury however refused medical treatment at the scene. - Leykums passenger: Anthony Benteley, 18 of Little Egg Harbor was airlifted to A.C. Trauma with a head injury. - Two additional passenger is Leykums vehicle, a male and female juvenile, sustained minor injury and were transported to Southern Ocean Medical Center. The juveniles were released from the hospital. Moreno, Landa and Benteley are all listed in stable condition and expected to be released. Leykum will be charged with failing to obey a traffic signal. Moreno will be charged with operating a motor vehicle without a drivers license. The crash is still under investigation by the Stafford Police Traffic Unit.
