Stanley AAP e-bulletin - December 2014 Welcome to the December 2014 edition of the Stanley Area Action Partnership (AAP) e-bulletin. The e-bulletins will provide you with information to keep you up to date with the work being developed by the Partnership and its partners to address local issues in the area, along with items of information that we feel you or your networks may be interested in. We hope you find it informative and worthwhile. Stanley AAP is the main engagement mechanism of Durham County Council in Stanley to ensure that local residents are engaged with the Council’s policies and have a voice in their community. The AAP takes forward neighbourhood issues, works with Partner Organisations to shape local service delivery, develops projects in the local area to address priority issues and links with local Elected Members to support them in their community leadership role. Stanley AAP Board Meeting: The next Stanley AAP Board Meeting will take place on: Monday 8th December 2014 – 6.00pm – 8.00pm, in Stanley Civic Hall (formerly the Lamplight Arts Centre), Front Street, Stanley, DH9 ONA. The December 2014 Meeting will include: • Durham County Council Budget Consultation 2015 – 2016. Presented by Councillor Simon Henig, Leader of Durham County Council and Gordon Elliott, Head of Partnerships and Community Engagement, Durham County Council • Safe Durham Partnership Plan 2014/17 Refresh – Consultation. Presented by Dr Lynn Wilson, Consultant in Public Health, Durham County Council • Update from Stanley AAP Priority Task Groups • Area Budget Applications Under the opening ‘Neighbourhood Issues’ section of the agenda, the opportunity exists for local residents and the local community to submit items for discussion direct to the AAP Board and Staff Team. Intended issues should be received prior to the Board Meeting in order that they can be researched and information provided to the Board. Please submit any intended items by 12 noon on Wednesday 3rd December 2014. Stanley AAP Small Grants Fund 2014/15 Stanley AAP is providing the opportunity for local groups and organisations to apply for a small grant to help them deliver projects and activities in the Stanley area. Funding of £30,000 has been made available by Stanley AAP and we would like to invite local organisations to consider submitting an application. You can apply for a grant of between £200 and £2,000 and your project / activity must fit in to one of our local priorities: Stanley AAP Priorities: Regeneration of Stanley & its Villages Opportunities and Activities for Young People Support for the Elderly, Carers, and Disability Groups Projects applications submitted by the required deadline and that meet our grant criteria will be considered by a Stanley AAP Small Grants Awards Panel. If you would like to apply for a small grant, please contact us for an application form. Guidance Notes will also be included to assist you with the completion of your form and to see if your group is eligible to apply, but if you would like any further help or support then please contact a member of the Stanley AAP team and we will be happy to assist. If your application does not meet the criteria, or is unsuccessful we will provide a valid explanation as to why we could not progress your application on this occasion and offer advice and guidance. We will also, where possible, signpost you to alternative sources of funding for your project/activity. Before we finalise our plans for next years budget, were asking you to comment on our approach and let us know if anything significant has changed in your neighbourhood that might impact on what we learnt from the 4,000 people who took part. What do you think of pharmacy services in County Durham? Can you spare 5 minutes to help Durham County Council shape pharmacy services? Durham County Council is currently consulting on a strategy to help shape pharmacy over the next three years. This strategy is called a Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment (the full document is available to view at durham.gov.uk/PNA). As part of this consultation we are asking the community for its views on pharmacy services including what is on offer, how easy they are to access, and what could be improved in the future. Your views are important during this consultation to help us to make the correct decisions about pharmacy services now and in the future. Your response could influence your local pharmacy services. The policy outlines how we will engage with businesses, provide advice and guidance to businesses, and respond to breaches of the law. The Chairman’s Medal is the highest honour Durham County Council can award, and is given to individuals or groups who have contributed significantly to communities in County Durham Working with local Area Action Partnerships, the Chairman of Durham County Council, Cllr John Robinson is encouraging people to nominate ‘individuals for voluntary effort’ and ‘outstanding charitable organisations’. The award is open to all ages. Cllr Robinson said: “There are so many unsung heroes in County Durham who do things for their community that can go unnoticed. “We will be holding a presentation event which will be a celebration of the achievements and effort that people of our county put in every day - a little time to reflect on the excellent work that people do for each other.” The awards will take place in March 2015. Empty homes interest free loans and grants If you’re a private landlord, or a prospective buyer looking for a property to move into, you might qualify for an interest free loan or grant to help you renovate your property. Durham County Council have received Government funding to help bring long term empty residential properties in council tax band A and B back into use. The funding is available until 31 March 2015. The main role of the Task and Finish Groups is to develop potential projects around the priorities by looking at the underlying issues outlined by the AAP Forum in greater detail. The Priority Task and Finish Groups meet regularly to discuss proposed projects to address the themes and issues. The main aim of Priority Task and Finish Groups is to involve members of the AAP Forum and local service deliverers to ensure that the AAP Board has access to the opinions of a wide range of people. Task and Finish Groups also allow Stanley AAP partners to consult Group Members about their work and publicise their activities at a local level.
