Star Jam is a truly wonderful organisation that gives young people with disabilities the chance to experience the buzz of performing and coming together through a common love of music and dance. Whether they sing, play an instrument or dance, they can do anything that showcases their amazing talents. I am thrilled to announce that I am a patron of StarJam, an organisation that focuses on what these incredible young people CAN do. I first watched a group perform many years ago at a sports awards night and there wasnt a dry eye in the house from their inspirational performance. They received a standing ovation and you could feel how uplifted everyone in the room was. I also did my PhD working with children with autism and their families, so when Star Jam reached out and asked me to be a patron it was an instant YES. This week, the NZ Womans Weekly published a piece about Star Jam and profiled an inspirational young man named Peter who I had the pleasure of meeting last month.
