Start now! Columbus Day is bogus! Built on a lie! And many in the black community are fed up with it. However, America isn’t ready to wake to the horrors this man represents to the African Diaspora and repent for their injustices, but that doesn’t mean have to continue to be held captors of their ignorance and intolerance. We believe it is time for the UI Family to form the New Black Community and start some traditions of our own. ivan_van_sertimaSince America clearly isn’t ready to remove Christoper Columbus from the history books and stop pouring this madness into the minds of our children through their educational propaganda machine known as the school system, we need to do what black people have done since the dawn of time, DO FOR SELF! We have the time, talent, and capabilities to take this negative and make it a positive, so I challenge you to join us and make it happen. 5 Things You Should Do On Christopher Columbus Day Here are the 5 things we need to start pushing as a nationwide project each and EVERY Columbus day from now until the end of time. We are going to take this negative and make it a positive. It is time we stop whining and complaining about each and everything that is going on with us and turn them into powerful points we can unite over, come together, and do the right thing for our communities. 1. Read “They Came Before Columbus” by Ivan Van Sertima This is one of the all time great historians in the modern day African diaspora. His work has lead to the discovery of many unknown pieces of our past. In this particular book, he address Columbus directly, the lies perpetuated around him used to brainwash us, and provide you with an accurate description of what was going on in the Americas, North and South, before Columbus and the lies were formed. Mandatory reading! And since we are on the kick of forming a new black community, let’s start getting together over this as well. Form your own UI Discussion Party centered around the discussion of Columbus with this book and today being the backdrop of the discussions. 2. Study Black History With Your Children Hopefully, you are studying and teaching your children true black history outside of this day, but let’s make Columbus day one in witch we take things to the next level. I will leave it up to you what you teach them and how you construct the day, but your aim should be to deconstruct the myriad of lies the educational system fills their heads with each and every year. 3. Volunteer in the Black Community The one thing we can all agree on is the black community is hurting. Hurting because of a lack of attention by us. Let’s take this Columbus day, and everyone following, to get active in our communities. This could be from volunteering at soup kitchens, donating money, or mentoring. However, you feel like you can contribute, CONTRIBUTE! No action is too big, nor too small. Get involved and volunteer! 4. Shop Only With Black Businesses Like it or not, economics are a critically important part of our future. Let’s use this Columbus Day and all those that follow to focus our $1 Trillion dollars in spending power on our own black businesses. I know there are going to be crazy Columbus Day sales in the white community, but you there will be some in the black community as well. If we make it an effort to create this movement, then more and more black businesses will respond with sales, special offers and more to not only give you what you need, but create a foundation for our future as well. If we spend our money inside the black community, there will be more jobs, opportunity and future success for all of us. 5. Spread The Word The only way a movement takes root is for all parties involved to spread the world. Tell people in your community and in your sphere of influence the great news and work The New Black Community is doing on Columbus Day. Let them know we are taking this negative and turning it into a positive from this day forth! Our future is in our hands and how we respond to anything is up to us. Instead of being upset, let’s use these things as a launching pad to create the future we all dream. It all starts this Columbus Day with you taking action on these 5 things. Are you in?
