Starting from March the Bedfordshire committee launched a bowler of the Month scheme. We wanted to engage league secretaries more with the committee and their bowlers and also reward and recognise the achievements of the Bedfordshire BTBA members. Bedfordshire in the last couple of years has significantly increased their revenue from fund raising and it was agreed the county coffers arent for the sole use of our county teams, but were in fact for all the bowlers who carried a BTBA Bedfordshire card. Nominations for Bowler of the month have to be submitted from league secretaries on the 25th of each month and from the short list the President and Secretary will select a worthy winner. We have teamed up with Andy & Shirley Penny at Ballmaster Pro Shop who have agreed to sponsor the event, so the winner getting a money off voucher to use at the proshop. The criteria for nomination isnt just bowlers who shot 300s and 800s, it could be a bowler who turned up every week of the league, a bowler who shoots their personal best whether that be their first 200 or their first 400 series or a bowler who has bowled well in a tournament outside of Dunstable. The bowlers dont have been born or live in Bedfordhsire, the only rule is they must have a Bedfordshire BTBA card. The nominations and short list for Marchs award were Jeff Taylor - for having a 300 in the scratch trios Mike Bloye - Winning the county trials for a 2nd year running in the senior division averaging 227 average with hes senior bonus Lorna Scott - Winning the county trials for a 2nd year running in the ladies division at the age of just 14 with a 208 average Ki Leighfield - for bowling in the herts trials finishing 4th averaging 214 and a good performance in the junior torment at torquay averaging 193 and shooting a 286 Jordan McKay - For hes hard work in improving hes bowling and bowling a 190 average in the county trials.
