Starting out this July 4th weekend with my all-time Favorite flick, The Right Stuff. I love this movie, these men, these Test Pilots and Astronauts, were ROCK STARS, walking, breathing Heros, who if youd ask them if they were Heros, would answer with a good ol boy Naw, or Shucks I dont think so. I was blessed in my career at Northrop to meet many of them, spend hours talking with them, listening to their War stories. When the film shows Yeager getting ready to fly the XB-1 and break the sound barrier, I am always reminded of one such Hero, Brigadier General Robert Cardenas, who flew the mother-ship that carried the Bell X-1 and launched Yeager on his historic flight. I spent many, many hours with Bob Cardenas in his office at the Aircraft Division of Northrop chewing the fat, reliving his flying days. The film reminds me that I have had a blessed life, lucky, charmed, what ever you want to call it. I have met and gotten to know some amazing men and women because I was in the right place at the right time and I took the time to listen to their amazing stories.
