Starting today, an 88-foot-tall tree from Chippewa National Forest will begin its nearly 2,000 mile trip to Washington, D.C. The 2014 Capitol Christmas Tree is a white spruce. Thousands of lights and Minnesota decorated ornaments will adorn the tree, which will be placed on the west lawn of the U-S Capitol grounds. There will be a tree cutting ceremony today. The tree will be put on a special semi and hauled around the state. It will then begin its three week cross country tour, making more than 30 stops. Other trees from the state will be used in federal buildings in Washington. You can track the tree at capitolchristmastree. More on First News.
