Starting tonight, new median cable barriers are scheduled to begin being installed on two key Indiana interstates: • I-65 – 11 miles of Tippecanoe and White counties, from 5 miles north of State Road 43 (MM 183) to just south of U.S. 231 (Exit 193). • I-70 – 40 miles of Clay, Putnam, Morgan and Hendricks counties, from MM 18 to MM 48. For both projects, nightly left-lane restrictions will be enforced in the area the contractor will be working. Each project is expected to be completed this fall. Other interstates undergoing the addition of median cable barriers this year include: • I-69 in Delaware County in the nine miles between State Road 28 and State Road 26. • I-70 in Henry and Wayne counties in the 19 miles between State Road 103 and Centerville Road (Exit 145). Since beginning a pilot program in 2005, Indiana has installed 369 miles of median cable barrier systems, which are lines of highly tensioned cables in the medians of roads designed to control cross-median crashes.
