Starved! By obodoekwe styvn For some one facing acute starvation, especially when such starvation may have eaten deep into the person’s sense of discernment, anything served in a dish in the name of food would be welcomed and devoured with great relish. It does not matter whether the thing served in the name of food is good enough for even swines to feed on. The stuff may be poisonous, but at the point of starvation, that is immaterial. What is important is that something has been made available to deal with the menace called starvation. Nigeria has been starved of good governance, of good leaders and of good ruling political parties and the people of the country have been yelling for change. The euphoria that greeted the formation and registration of APC as a political party in Nigeria, advertised as alternative to the nigeria’s ruling PDP, shows how Nigerians have been starved of a political arrangement expected to take the country to a promised land. It is obvious that the only news which many Nigerians would consider as good news is the news that will say that the umbrella called PDP has turn to shreds. Apart grom few Nigerians whose proboscis are deeply plugged into public treasuries through the machinery of the PDP, overwhelming majority of Nigerians have been praying for the death of the party. Among those praying for the death of the party which prides itself as the largest party in Africa are those waiting in the wings to take over the rulership of the country from the pDP and its tributaries. I am among those praying for misfortunes to befall this party once described as nest of killers by Wole Soyinka. That was when Wole Soyinka was still an advocate of the masses. Now, he has been transmogrified into the errand boy and advocate of Amaechi, who, until very recently, was the leader of the nest of killers called the PDP in Rivers state. Even as Amaechi plans how to unleash mayhem on the masses in rivers state, Soyinka never speaks in defense of the masses in rivers state. He has lost his voice. The Nigerian ruling class, using the umbrella called the PDP, has brought too much destruction in the polity. It was worse during the regime of obasanjo as the leader of the party. It was then that PDP had nest of killers liquidating those perceived to be opposed to the evil policies of the party rulers aimed at capturing power all over the country. It was at that period that political assassinations and political armed robberies became the order of the day. Cultists, who later transformed into big time dare-devil militants were groomed and unleashed on the public in Rivers state the the rulers of the party. Gov. Amaechi was then the speaker of the rivers state House of Assembly under the umbrella of the PDP. There is no doubt that the ruling class in Nigeria has been making mockery of governance, turning democracy on its bald head. In place of governance, they have given the country evil rulership. And they have continued to build on the evil foundation of corruption laid by IBB and other coupists. Although the masses laboured and prayed for the enthronement of the civilian regime, many have become disenchanted over the mockery being made of governance across the country. In place of dividends of democracy, the citizenry has been mesmerized with media propaganda about imaginary developments seen only on the pages of newspapers and on TV screens. I have no regrets wishing that the umbrella is torn to shreds. A party that has the like of Anenih, obasanjo, IBB, Atiku, Odili, Amaechi, akpabio, Danjuma, ibori, alleged to be a staunch Abacha man, and other evil people and agents of dictatorships deserves no place in any comity of democratic parties. Yes, Nigeria needs a good party that would have the interest of the masses at heart. Nigeria needs a party, or parties that would liberate the country from the vice grip of evil men operating under the ruling PDP at the national level. That was why jubilations greeted the emergence of APC believed to have been formed to wrestle PDP to the ground. But is APC really an alternative that should be celebrated? In other words, can anything good come out of the new gang up called the APC? I laughed when people, out of sheer desperation for alternative embarked on wild jubilation over the birth of the APC. I have been labouring to spot any difference between this APC and the PDP it is flexing muscles to replace, but no noticeable difference could be located. Why? None exists. Those pushing the party are the members of the ruling class obviously carved from a tree called evil. The difference is that while the PDP holds power at the national level, especially the executive, the parties that make up the APC are holding power dominantly in some states. It is important to no9te that ideologically, there is no difference between the APC or any of the bourgeoisie party for that matter and the PDP. The APC is merely a gang up of people either displaced from the ruling PDP, or those who were unable to secure desired positions in the PDP. Some of them actually started from PDP, but later crashed out of the party as a result of their ambitions and interests which may have been in conflict with those of some elements within the party. It misleading to think that there is any thing progressive about them irrespective of the coat of progressives with which they tend to cover themselves. When it comes to oppressing the masses, there is no difference between the PDP and the parties the parties that united under the so called APC. Oshiomhole is the closest to anything that could be associated with progressivism. When Jonathan’s PDP decided to punish Nigerians with hike in the price of petrol, Adams oshiomhole and his ACN threw their weight behind the anti-;peoples policy. We have all seen the support Adams has been giving to Amaechi in his project of unleashing mayhem against the poor masses in Rivers state. Amaechi has been a member of the PDP in rivers state even before the party used the instrumentality to conquer the state. Now let us have a cursory look at some of the drivers and architects of the vehicle of deception called APC. Tinubu started as ACN governor, imposed his relation, Fashola on Lagos state as his successor, imposed his wife as a senator, his daughter as an Assembly member, his inlaw as a lawmaker in another state. After privatizing the party, he also made his mother a market leader and after the death of his mother, his daughter was imposed on the traders as market leader. He has proved to be such a selfish greedy person whose only reason for desiring the death of the ruling PDP is no doubt to create the opportunity for his participation in the looting of national treasury. Recently, Fashola was enmeshed in a scandal over the deportation of 54 destitute, so-called, from lagos to onitsha. It exposed his anti-poor policiesas the ACN governor of Lagos state. Fashola has rendered thousands of poor masses homeless and destitute through his policy of rulership by demolition, an anti-poor policy he shares with other governors from different parties, including Amaechi of rivers state. Tom Ikimi is one of the heavy weights of APC. He was one of the spokespersons of one of the worst dictatorships that Nigeria ever had. He spoke for and on behalf of Abacha, the evil general. Another heavyweight is Buhari of CPC. Buhari headed one of the most oppressive military junta Nigeria ever had. Under buhari, human rights were tied to the stake. It is unimaginable that inspite of the atrocities of the junta he headed, he still has the audacity to be desperately scrambling to rule Nigeria again. This only shows how conscienceless he is. It is amazing that those who condemn PDP for being an evil party are clapping hands for the involvement of Amaechi in the APC campaign. What shall we call this? They have forgotten that whatever PDP in rivers state turned out to be, Amaechi contributed immensely in turning the party into the demon it is said to be. He has been active member of the party since the advent of this republic in1999 and has risen to become a leader of the party before his political fortune started crumbling. Why then should any right thinking person regard as a credible alternative, any party this desperado runs to in search of his selfish agenda? Recently, it was reported that the APC, the so-called PDP’s alternative, the hope of Nigeria, went on its knees begging Danjuma to become its presidential candidate. And we know that Danjuma is not only one of the big problems of Nigeria when it comes to graft and corruption, but was one of the soldiers that demonized the PDP. Assuming that such character becomes the president of Nigeria, but God forbid, what hope does Nigeria have? If there is any doubt regarding the dark and empty agenda of the desperadoes flexing muscles to wrestle power from the hands of the PDP, hat doubt ought to be erased by the call on Danjuma to lead the party. Those who gulp virus-filled water because of thirst should bear in mind that they are only inviting sickness and maybe death. APC, with anti-peoples characters championing it, can never be the alternative party Nigeria desperately desires. what has been offered to the starving public in the name of party is a dish of rubbish decorated in a golden plate called progressive. It is unfortunate that any clown, minion or chimp can come in the name of change and is still celebrated and welcomed with hands widely opened. Yes, we need change.
