Starver®... SIMPLY THE BEST Find out why Starver is still the market leading phosphate remover across the globe... Starver® was first commercialised in November 1994 and to this day is still regarded as the most successful specialty pool chemical in markets across the globe. Often imitated but never duplicate, Starver® still remains the benchmark in phosphate removal and remains the most efficient, cost effective and innovative product on the market. The last 7 years has seen a number of suppliers attempt to jump on the phosphate removal band wagon and by doing so they have released inferior phosphate removers which have the potential to damage why we first introduced the concept of phosphate removal nearly 20 years ago... Starver® was and is still marketed as a maintenance solution which could be added weekly, fortnightly or monthly depending on the severity of each pool. The maintenance schedule is designed so the product is used all year round as a preventative which acts as an insurance policy for the customer and customer satisfaction is and always will be the No.1 priority. By removing phosphates we are removing the nutrient that algae thrive on to survive. Thats the easy part and most phosphate removers will do just that - remove phosphate. The hard part is ensuring you maintain low enough concentrations to ensure the algae cannot and will not regenerate. Most phosphate removers claim to have higher amounts of Rare Earth Compounds (such as Lanthanum Chloride and Lanthanum Carbonate). They claim to be stronger than Starver® ,more effective than Starver®, because more is better... Right?... Wrong! Overdosing of Lanthanum Chloride and not understanding the chemistry behind it has seen many manufacturers try and fail when it comes to developing phosphate removers. When high concentrations of Lanthanum Compounds are added to the water they react with the dissolved phosphates and other impurities resulting in cloudy water. The only way to rectify this is to add a clarifier or run the pump and filter for 48 -72 hours. Even with a clarifier added you will need to run the pump for 24 hours before achieving crystal clear water. Once the particles etc have filtered out the phosphate level will have dropped considerably but where is the customer satisfaction? Arent we trying to make life easy for the pool owner? Arent problem solving chemicals designed to do just that - Solve problems... Not create new ones? This is where Starver® comes into its own. Starver® is a combination of Lanthanum Glycolate (a compound whereby Lanthanum Chloride is still the core ingredient) along with bonding agents, flocculants, clarifiers, pH and TAL stabilisers and a mild algaestat. When added to the water it does not cloud up and there is no need to add a clarifier. Quite the opposite in fact. Starver® (with its built in floccing agents and clarifiers) gives pools that extra shine. It also assists in balancing the water, aids in the production of chlorine (for salt pools) and provides a support mechanism for the sanitiser and other chemicals in the water. Starver® will not only provide you and your customers a crystal clear, algae free pool it will also reduce the cost of maintaining a pool and it will maintain the lowest possible level of phosphates in the water. Today Starver® is sold, marketed and distributed in more than 20 countries around the world. It is now manufactured on 3 separate continents and the formulation has remained the same now for more than 10 years. While other companies claim their products have higher concentrations, they perform faster or more efficiently, Starver® has proven time and time again that more is not better. Starver® does not need higher concentrations rare earths compounds. The combination of compounds that Starver® boasts outlines precisely why more is not always better. Starver® provides that year round solution for every pool owner and is simply the best when it comes to providing you and your customers with a user friendly pool all year long.
