State By State Breakdown of How the US House of Representatives Voted for Medical Marijuana By Thomas H. Clarke May 31, 2014 State By State Breakdown of How the US House of Representatives Voted for Medical Marijuana how they all voted WASHINGTON, DC — Early Friday morning, the United States House of Representatives voted 219-189 to an amendment that blocks the federal government from interfering with states that permit the use of medical marijuana. The amendment specifically would stop the Department of Justice, including the Drug Enforcement Administration, from spending funds to prevent states from implementing their own medical marijuana laws. While many of the votes were along party lines – 170 Democrats and 49 Republicans voted yes, while 17 Democrats and 172 Republicans voted no — many of the votes cast in favor of the amendment came from states who have passed legislation to allow some type of access to medical marijuana, including several delegations from the South. Below is a state-by-state breakdown of how the votes were cast. It should be noted that there are currently 3 vacancies in the 435-member House.
