State Day 2014 October 24, 2013 Minutes Thirteen Questers representing eleven different groups from the Ames, Boone and Ogden areas met at the home of Fay Gish Hall at l:30 P.M. to further making plans for the Iowa State Day April 4-5, 2014. All were welcomed by the hostess and the agenda was passed out to everyone by the co-chairwomen, Fay and Alma Swanson. We introduced ourselves and Mary J. Ott (Wm. B. Ogden #1247) volunteered to be secretary. Karen Dannen read the minutes of the August meeting held at Seven Oaks and wrote by Becky Rice who was unable to attend this meeting. One correction was made: the Netta Snook chapter #882, Ames will do the morning registration & coffee assisted by Mamie Eisenhower chapter of Boone starting at 8:15 A.M. on April 5 at Seven Oaks. The theme for State Day is LIFE’S JOURNEY’S and the President’s Reception will be held at Morrill Hall on the ISU campus at a cost of $250 for two hours. Alma Swanson & the High Bridge Chapter #1241 will make arrangements to secure this place. PRESIDENT’S RECEPTION: Linda Carver (Captain Greeley #871, Ames) presented a rough draft paper to everyone with plans that have been made. Time – Friday, April 4, 2014. Time – 6 to 7:30 P.M. Social time/cash bar – 6 to 6:45 approximately. Speaker time – 6:45 to7:30 P.M. The food committee is Becky Rice, Jane Milleman and Linda Carver & have a budget of about $345 to spend on light hors d’oeuvres and tortilla rollups with salsa. The entire budget is based on an estimate of 125 people attending. Because CyRide is very accommodating & convenient for everyone to get around, it will be suggested on the invitation that people are invited to park for free at the stadium & ride the bus to Morrill Hall. REGISTRATION: Last year it was $35. SPEAKERS: Onondaga Questers #1200 group will contact the speakers. As of now, we have Rosemary Harris to present Netta Snook, and Misty McNally to present the Kate Shelley genealogy family. It was suggested that the “Junk and Re-funkery” store in Boone might have a speaker who would come. Alma Swanson read an essay titled “Life on the Train”. We all agreed that this would be very appropriate to be read at State Day. PRINTING: Invitations, address labels, name tags, programs, etc. (Nite Owl in Ames has color copies at 25cents/copy for 100 or more copies. Suggestion – Sunstrom-Miller Printing in Boone will be contacted to get an estimate. LUNCHEON/FOOD FOR SAT., APRIL 5: Helen Kopitke & Susan Hooper from Mamie Eisenhower chapter will meet with caterer, Bev Lingren to discuss menu. Suggested cost $15. TABLE DECORATIONS: We can use anything pertaining to TRAVEL. Ideas: airplanes, cars, whistles, maps, etc. The following groups have volunteered to help decorate: High Bridge, Lincoln Highway. We discussed the possibility of getting in on Friday night or maybe early Sat. a.m. for an extra $100? BASKETS: High Bridge, Nathan Boone, Wm. B. Ogden, Lincoln Highway. Is this enough? TICKETS TO WIN BASKETS: 6 tickets for $5.00 HAWKEYE TALES: Article (due Dec.15) to be written by Alma Swanson and Mary J. Ott about state day. Be sure to include the registration blank. ANTIQUE COLLECTIONS TO SHARE: Contact Boone Scenic Valley for a table. Alma will contact Janelle Hammarstedt who has compact collection. Fay Gish Hall would have snookims and beaded baskets. Our next meeting will be at LaCretta Mexican Restaurant on S. Story St, Boone. The meeting adjourned and the hostess served a delicious array of finger food with coffee and tea.
