State Senate Finance Chairman Tommy Williams (R) Announces He Will Not Run For State Comptroller – Current Senate Term Expires 2016 July 3, 2013 State Senate Finance Chairman Tommy Williams Announces He Will Not Run for State Comptroller Williams said decision was one of “putting people and duty before politics” AUSTIN, TEXAS ~ State Senate Finance Chairman Tommy Williams (R-The Woodlands) announced Wednesday he will not run for Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts in the 2014 Republican primary. Williams, is the only certified public accountant serving in the Texas Senate and was recently named by Texas Monthly magazine as one of the state’s “TEN BEST LEGISLATORS” for passing the state’s new, no-tax balanced budget. A former member of the Texas House, Williams has also received numerous conservative and taxpayer awards for authoring and passing property tax appraisal reforms. “I am sincerely humbled by the outpouring of statewide encouragement to enter the Comptroller’s race. Marsha and I have had to balance this political opportunity with my responsibility to the families of Southeast Texas as their State Senator. My current term runs through 2016,” said Williams. Williams added, “I also feel serving as Chairman of the State Senate Finance Committee is incompatible with the demands of simultaneously running for a statewide election. After careful consideration I feel I can best serve our state and the people of Southeast Texas in my current role as State Senator and Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee.” “For me, the decision to not run for statewide office at this time is ultimately one of putting people and duty before politics.” See article at : quorumreport/
