State of Nevada – Bison Fire Update Friday July 12, 2013 21:30 Bison Fire, Carson City BLM. The Bison Fire started at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 4, 2013. The lightning-caused fire is located along the western slope of the Pinenut Mountain range in Douglas County, Nevada, and is burning a combination of BLM public lands, Native American allotment lands, and private lands about five miles east of Gardnerville (east of U.S. Highway 395). A State of Emergency has been declared by Douglas County. For additional information please visit: inciweb.org/incident/3492/ Or sierrafront.net/Media%20Information/media_information.shtml Incident Commander: Mike Whalen’s Great Basin Type II Incident Management Team Personnel: 705 (As the containment percent rises the resources will continue to be released from the Bison fire and made available for other fires) Acres burned: 24,136 Containment: 91% Estimated Containment Date: 07/14/2013 Estimated Cost: $7,131,594 Injuries: Two firefighter injuries have been reported (a twisted knee and breathing problems) Structures: 1 destroyed (an old mining structure) Incident Commander Mike Whalen, reports fire fighters have are continuing mop-up and fire line rehab. There are still several hot spots that are being worked on the north and southeast edges of the fire but winds have not been a factor in fire behavior yesterday or today. All evacuations and road closures have been lifted. The spike camp and helibase in Smith Valley was closed today and the fire fighters have returned to the Incident Command Post (ICP) in Gardnerville. Issues / Concerns / Considerations: There are no significant weather concerns for tomorrow’s operations. Always provide for safety of firefighters and the public.
