State to provide security for ADC members MU NEWS/IMPHAL, July 15 : Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam on Tuesday informed the ongoing state assembly that the government will provide necessary security personnel to the Autonomous District Council (ADC) Members during their tour programmes. Gaikhangam who also holds the home portfolio made an assurance in this regard while replying to a call attention motion by opposition MLA Dr I Ibohalbi during the day’s assembly session on the assassination of former Vice Chairman, ADC in Ukhrul district. Gaikhangam also informed the house of 60 members that the government has received an ‘intelligence report’ that some ADC members were in the hit list of an unlawful organization in the state. However he did not elaborate on it. Former Vice chairman of the ADC Ukhrul Ngalangzar was killed in an ambushed near Finch corner, about 60km from Imphal, along Imphal-Ukhrul road on July 12.The reason behind the incident was also known as none of the armed organization has claimed responsibility for the incident. However a team of state forces have arrested eight persons from the NSCN-IM office in Ukhrul town in connection with the incident. All the eight persons have been remanded in the police custody till July 27 after they were produced before the court, the Home minister added. The state police team also managed to rescue six other innocent youths who were detained in the (NSCN-IM) office during the raid.
