Statement From County Executive Daniel P. McCoy On Passage of Resolution 263 “I am pleased that the Albany County Legislature has supported our veterans by passing a resolution to move forward on the Soldier On project. Resolution 263 names Albany County as lead agency in the simple but necessary step of conducting an environmental assessment under the State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA). This will not cost Albany County taxpayers a penny because Soldier On will pay for it. Our returning, at-risk veterans need the services that Soldier On provides. Passing this resolution allows the process to move forward. The SEQRA will provide the answers to environmental questions raised. The Soldier On project is supported by the state, other municipal leaders throughout the county and the Shakers who are neighbors at the proposed site. There are questions about the environmental impact that can only be answered by doing a SEQRA. Thank you to the veterans who shared their compelling stories and what Soldier On has meant to them as well as what they hope a new facility in Albany County can provide for at-need veterans. I’m grateful we achieved a unanimous vote and my administration is committed to making Soldier On a reality in Albany County.” ###
