Statement by Chairman John Zody on Passage of HJR-3 Out of Committee “This evening, Gov. Pence and Speaker Bosma forced through committee a piece of unpopular, unnecessary legislation by using bully-style political tactics. With the passage of HJR-3 out of the House Elections Committee, the Republican-controlled legislature continues its focus on divisive social issues instead of creating tools to help grow our state’s economy. Their lack of vision in calling HJR-3 to question shows how completely out of touch they are when it comes to the real needs of Hoosiers, and how intent they are in creating distractions from their failed leadership and a sagging state economy. “Leaders Pelath, Lanane and their Democratic colleagues are working tirelessly to create jobs, invest in education, and expand opportunities for middle-class families. We can do better than this in Indiana – our welcome mat should be out for everyone.”
