Statement from Jersey Airport re: end of Blue Islands direct services to Zurich, Amsterdam & Paris (CDG). The airline is forming a new codeshare operation with Cityjet. ^es Blue Islands New Codeshare Agreement posted: 02/12/2014 Channel Islands based airline, Blue Islands, is joining forces with regional airline, CityJet in a new partnership to provide easy access to major European cities on hundreds of connecting codeshare flights every week from London City Airport through the CityJet network. Currently Blue Islands operate alternate day direct flights from Jersey to Europe, which customers find inconvenient. The CityJet link provides the opportunity for daily services to Amsterdam, Paris, Dublin, Antwerp and Rotterdam; with many destinations now being served up to nine times per day. This means that day returns to Amsterdam and Paris are now possible from Jersey and passengers will also benefit from APD (Air Passenger Duty) savings when booking connecting flights through the codeshare. Blue Islands has also announced an additional lunchtime service to London City offering 25,000 more seats per year and a 45% increase in capacity. The new flight will depart Jersey at 13.00, with the return flight departing London City at 14.40. Rob Veron, Managing Director of Blue Islands commented: Passengers will immediately have access to three new European cities on our network together with Amsterdam and Paris, significantly more frequency, and greater flexibility, and all bookable with Blue Islands. Just one booking takes care of everything, passengers can check in bags to their final destination, improving the overall customer experience. Also, the extra flight to London City means there is more choice when visiting London for half day trips to the City when needed. The new daily connecting flights via London City will commence in early 2015, with the exact dates to be announced in the coming weeks as schedules are finalised. Blue Islands will cease to operate its alternate day direct flights to Amsterdam and Paris as from 05 January 2015. At which point Blue Islands will also end its twice weekly Zurich service, with the Geneva service continuing to operate during the ski seasons. On behalf of Jersey Airport, Group CEO for Ports of Jersey, Doug Bannister, said: Blue Islands’ codeshare agreement with CityJet is an exciting development in the airline’s network. Despite the loss of the direct air services, it will offer an improved level of frequency and a far greater choice for convenient travel days than currently available. While direct flights are always good, we believe this new product offering will be more popular given the significant improvement in connection possibilities through London City Airport. We view mainland Europe as a growth opportunity for Jersey and are pleased that one of our partner airlines, Blue Islands, has responded with a strong offering that should be attractive to local residents as well as incoming visitors travelling for both business and leisure purposes.
